GrindoSonic tools use the Impulse Excitation Technique (IET) to measure internal mechanical properties of a sample.
Measure properties such as:
- Young’s modulus
- Shear modulus
- Poisson’s ratio
- Damping capacity
- Porosity indicators
The IET is a non-destructive resonance method. A sample is excited by a simple tap generating a resonance response that is sensitive to material properties and internal damage. It is highly reproducible making it ideal for research, process optimisation and quality control.
This video gives a brief introduction to the Impulse Excitation Technique demonstrating the difference in resonance frequency between good and bad parts.
