In this application note the frictional performance and wear characteristics of aluminosilicate ceramic plates were investigated using a NANOVEA T50 tribometer. Samples were first heated in a furnace from ambient conditions to elevated temperatures of 400 °C and 800 °C, with tribological testing performed directly at these temperatures.

To provide a comparative dataset, additional wear tests were conducted during the cooling phase, as the samples returned from 800 °C to 400 °C and ultimately back to room temperature. A 6 mm diameter Al₂O₃ ball (Grade 100) was used as the counterface. Throughout testing, the coefficient of friction, wear track depth, and temperature were continuously recorded in real time.

Test parameters were as follows:

Normal force: 3N
Speed: 5m/min
Test Duration: 500 cycles
Rotational speed: Adjusted according to change of radii

Wear rate K was evaluated with surface roughness and wear track profiles being evaluated using a Nanovea Profilometer. Wear track morphology was examined using am optical microscope.
