Liquid scintillator performance can vary for pulse discrimination properties, high flash point, high or low temperatures, plus others. They can be loaded with organo-metallic compounds to increase their neutron or photon cross-sections. In liquid form these scintillators can be economical in large volumes or made in concentrate form to be diluted on site.
Liquid scintillators must be stored in clean, dry, chemically inert containers and deoxygenated prior to use. They are available in bulk or sealed in glass or aluminium.
